Story

Early Years

I started my career as an attorne doing business affairs in the corporate world. I took a traditional route at first, but I was always fostering my creative side and was drawn to visionaries. During law school and in my early career, I was almost always taking an acting class, dabbling in art or trying something new on the side. I gravitated to positions and opportunities that challenged the status quo. I loved change and excitement and thrived on my ability to accomplish whatever I set my mind to-both in my focused career and following my curiosity. This was all working, kind of.

The Turning Point

Unfortunately, my driven and creative personality was out of balance. All of my hard work and creative pursuits left little time for rest and self care. As a very young adult who seemed successful and healthy, I was actually suffering from anxiety, chronic insomnia and heart palpitations. My liver enzymes were elevated and I suffered from seasonal allergies and sinus problems. I went to exercise classes regularly, but had no real connection to the power of my body. I thought that eating healthy meant restricting calories and fat.

Healing through Yoga

I came by yoga through self exploration and curiosity. I remember my very first yoga class, in a gym in Atlanta in 1998. When I look back on that class, I am surprised by how much I remember the details. I remember the teacher discussing bandhas, the muscular controls that we use like locks to control the energy flow in our bodies. I had never heard of anything like this in my life, but it immediately made sense to me. It was as if my body was remembering information it already knew.

I continued my career, had two children and kept doing yoga about once a week for many years. That once a week was a true healing practice for me and over many years the time I spent on the yoga mat increased to just about daily. I found a respite from the worry and sleeplessness that had been increasing since adolescence. I was able to build, over time, a structure and discipline that transformed my fitness level and my ability to enjoy and appreciate my true nature and see the grace in others more clearly. I was also able to manifest my love of drawing and painting into a daily routine and find success in creating and selling art professionally.

A NEW LOVE OF AYURVEDA

In 2013, I enrolled in yoga teacher training as an opportunity to deepen my practice and learn more. This is where I first learned about Ayurveda. Just like yoga, Ayurveda felt familiar and made sense to me right way. Ayurvedic routines and self study began healing my life on every level possible. My energy level was higher and I was creating more art and enjoying my life and feeling more personal freedom than I could remember in my adult life. These ancient rituals and tools for self realization are well-studied and informative. I want to share them with as many people as I can.

How At Wellness Started

The name "At Wellness" came straight from my name, Bridget Atwell. I hope that I can help you experience the deep sense of balance that comes with connecting with your true nature. That is what wellness is really all about. You already know how to be there. Ayurveda is a great tool for reconnecting with that intrinsic knowledge.
